What are the recommended antivirus exclusions for NuGenesis? - WKB5106
OBJECTIVE or GOAL
Determine the files and folders that must be excluded from antivirus software.
ENVIRONMENT
- NuGenesis 8 SDMS
- NuGenesis 8 LMS
- NuGenesis 9 SDMS
- NuGenesis 9 LMS
PROCEDURE
At a minimum, disable real-time scanning on the folders that NuGenesis uses for temporary files and log files:
NuGenesis 8
- Client programs
- The SDMS applications' temp folder
- Defined in the registry: HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\NuGenesis Technologies Corp.\NuGenesis\8.0\Preview\TempFolder
- Default path: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\Temp
- Often set to %TEMP%, which expands to the Temp folder in the logged-in user's profile
- The SDMS TE_TEMP path: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\TE_TEMP
- %TEMP% for the NuGenesis RPC service user
- Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NuGenesis LMS\
- This is required because the SDMS Project Browser creates a "\download1" folder inside the LMS installation folder
- C:\Windows\system32\spool\printers
- Used by the NuGenesis UNIFY printer when processing print jobs
- The SDMS applications' temp folder
- Server programs
- Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\Application Server
- Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\TE_TEMP
- %TEMP% for the NuGenesis RPC service user
- C:\Windows\NG80*
- Examples: C:\Windows\NG80AAStatus, C:\Windows\NG80AAConfig. Used by the NuGenesis SCC modules
- C:\temp\WATERSLMS\WLMSServer
- Temp folder used by the LMS Web server
- Drive:\WatersLMSServer\Jboss-6.0.0.Final\server\eln\temp
NuGenesis 9
- Client programs
- The SDMS applications' temp folder
- Defined in the registry: HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\NuGenesis Technologies Corp.\NuGenesis\Preview\TempFolder
- Default path: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NGSDMS\Temp
- Often set to %TEMP%, which expands to the Temp folder in the logged-in user's profile
- The SDMS TE_TEMP path: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NGSDMS\TE_TEMP
- %TEMP% for the NuGenesis RPC service user
- Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NuGenesis LMS\
- This is required because the SDMS Project Browser creates a "\download1" folder inside the LMS installation folder
- C:\Windows\system32\spool\printers
- Used by the NuGenesis UNIFY printer when processing print jobs
- The SDMS applications' temp folder
- Server programs
- Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NGSDMS\Application Server
- Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NGSDMS\TE_TEMP
- %TEMP% for the NuGenesis RPC service user
- C:\Windows\NG*
- Examples: C:\Windows\NGAAStatus, C:\Windows\NGAAConfig. Used by the NuGenesis SCC modules
- C:\temp\WATERSLMS\WLMSServer
- Temp folder used by the LMS Web server
- Drive:\WatersLMSServer\WildFly-11.0.0.Final\standalone\tmp

The NuGenesis LMS Installation & Configuration Guide states:
Tips: If you are using real-time virus scanning, after the installation, exclude all NuGenesis LMS-related folders and their subdirectories from the scans. Some real-time virus scanners mistake normal NuGenesis LMS functionality for virus activity and can interfere with data buffering, or cause the run to stop. Also, running virus scans on the Oracle data files can degrade database performance.
Please note this is listed as a "tip", not a requirement. Because each antivirus software is different in how it identifies and handles processes and files, the experience may vary from software to software. There are several packages that identify NuGenesis .exe files and processes as dangerous and either prevent them from running or remove the file completely. Customers should determine if this is an issue in a development or test environment prior to implementing policies or exclusions in production environments.
