How to archive data folders to release space in your UNIFI database - WKB12003

Article number: 12003

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Archive data (release space in the UNIFI oracle database) for new data to be acquired or imported. (The exported data can be copied/archived to a secure location.)

ENVIRONMENT

  • UNIFI workstation or network 1.9.4 and previous

PROCEDURE

  1. Identify older folders no longer required for further processing or reporting. (Waters recommends organizing your work in small, self-contained folders with methods, sample sets, and analyses residing in the same folder.)
  2. Ensure the data is NOT open within Work-In-Progress or there is NOT already data with the same name in the destination folder.
  3. Open the data in review to check its NOT locked - in which case remove the cause of the lock before it can be moved.
  4. Set the folder to "Offline". Administration > Security > Access Management > Right-click folder > Change Status > Offline.

  5. From Explorer, right-click the folder and export as a UEP file to a secure archive location(protected by customer's own backup solution)
  6. Confirm that the UEP export was successful. This is reported on completion in the export window and in the event log.
  7. Delete the Folder. Administration > Security > Access Management > Right-click folder > Delete.
  8. It is strongly advised the customer carefully catalogue the uep archive location so that they easily identify ueps required when older data needs to be accessed.

Note: Uep exports include all related audit trail records so the uep is a complete package when imported for review.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Note: Due to defect US1#215781, UNIFI prevents deletion of Read Only, so set to Offline before deleting.
