With Empower, frequent buffering events seen on multiple sites and multiple LAC/Es - WKB229311

SYMPTOMS

• Frequent buffering events

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower Enterprise
• WAN

CAUSE

The network infrastructure and policies are closing idle connections. 

Empower SQL connections are active only at the start and end of sample sets and the start and end of each injection. During the run, they appear idle. If they are closed, buffering is triggered.

FIX or WORKAROUND

• Set the following parameters in the server SQLNET.ORA file (WKB69200, internal):

SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME=10
SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT=120

• Configure suitable tcp-keepalive on the Datacenter router and switches
• Configure suitable tcp-keepalive on routers/switches used by Empower nodes.
• Configure suitable idle connection timeout on firewalls.

The sqlnet.ora file is located in %installationdrive%\Empower\Oracle\OracleXXc\NETWORK\ADMIN (XX indicates the version of Oracle for a given Empower release) This is where the change needs to made, not in the similar sqlnet.ora found in the client folder also on the server. There are two sqlnet.ora files on the server, be sure to modify the one in the specified path above.
