How to calculate the heat output or dissipation (BTU) from an instrument - WKB7935

Article number: 7935

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Calculate the heat output of an instrument in order to properly cool the laboratory.

ENVIRONMENT

  • All instrumentation

PROCEDURE

  1. Your instrument's Site Preparation Guide should specify the heat dissipation in kW. Some instruments use VA as the power unit. 1 VA = 1W
  2. If no heat dissipation is specified you can take the typical power consumption as heat dissipation
  3. If you prefer the value in British Thermal Units per hour, multiply by 3412 (1kW = 3412 BTU/h)
