How to calculate the heat output or dissipation (BTU) from an instrument - WKB7935

Article number: 7935

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

How to calculate the heat output of an instrument in order to properly cool the laboratory.

ENVIRONMENT

  • All instrumentation

PROCEDURE

  1. Locate the specified amperage and voltage numbers for the equipment.
  2. Calculate: Average Watts = (Specified Amperage x 0.707) x Voltage.
  3. Calculate: BTU/Hr = Average Watts x 3.412 or Volt Amps (VA) x 3.412
  4. This gives you the heat output per hour for this piece of instrumentation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Site Preparation Guides show the Power Consumption in either Watts (KW or W) or Volt Amps (VA)
