ESI probe hissing on Xevo MS or SYNAPT system - WKB2164

SYMPTOMS

  • There is a loud hissing sound coming from the ESI probe
  • The system may fail the source pressure test

ENVIRONMENT

  • Xevo triple quads
  • Xevo QTof
  • Xevo G2 QTof
  • Xevo G2-S QTof
  • Xevo G2-XS QTof
  • SYNAPT G2 QTof
  • SYNAPT G2-S QTof
  • SYNAPT G2-Si QTof

CAUSE

The sample probe is not connected properly and API gas is escaping. 

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Open the source enclosure door.
  2. Unscrew the collar on the ESI probe and pull it up a few inches.
  3. Reseat the probe by pushing it all the way down, and then screw the collar down.
  4. Close the source enclosure door.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The source pressure test should ensue and pass at this point. You should no longer hear hissing from the ESI probe.
