"Ion Guide 2 Pressure too high" error on Xevo TQ-XS - WKB121428

SYMPTOMS

  • Intermittent error message: "Ion Guide 2 Pressure too high"
  • Pressure gauge reading is in low e-2 mbar range
  • Recent maintenance on source/sample cone

CAUSE

Missing or incorrectly stacked Belleville spring washers that are used to position the gas cone position block correctly

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Vent the system.
  2. Remove the gas cone position block.
  3. Pay attention to the orientation of the curved washers. To determine their arrangement, imagine that
    the washers are parentheses. Arrange them in this manner: ( ) ( ), four per side for a total of eight.
  4. Reinstall the gas cone position block with the Belleville spring washers arranged as described in step 3.
  5. Tighten the screw that holds the cone gas position block and ensure that the sample cone can be correctly installed.
  6. Ensure that the vacuum system pumps down correctly and that the Ion Guide 2 vacuum gauge reads close to 5e-3 mbar after an appropriate period of pumping.
