ACQUITY console fails on MassLynx 4.2 systems when configuring 2D ACQUITY using 2017 Driver Pack R1 - WKB79720

SYMPTOMS

  • After configuring multiple ACQUITY pumps in MassLynx using the Waters Pump Control from Driver Pack 2017 R1, the console fails, often showing the message "ACQUITY Console Client has Stopped Working".

CAUSE

Software bug

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Load the drivers from Driver Pack 2017 R2 and reboot the PC.  
  2. Ensure that the firmware on the modules matches what is in the release notes for the Driver Pack. Downgrade (for example, from 1.71 to 1.65) if they don't match perfectly, power cycle when necessary, and wait for initialization to complete. Then open MassLynx, followed by the inlet editor.  
  3. Configure the instruments (WPC, SM, CM, UV), scanning for instruments on the detector page and making sure that Detectors 1 and 2 have serial numbers listed on the instrument configuration page.
  4. Configure the events and triggering (events in 1 and contact closure for pump and detector) and exit the inlet editor and MassLynx. Reboot the PC.  
  5. Open MassLynx and the inlet editor. Go to the inlet, select "config", and set up the alpha and beta pumps, making sure that the Alpha (1) pump s/n is the one physically sitting under the SM. Scan to bring in the serial numbers and set the appropriate pump to the corresponding serial number.
  6. Select OK to leave the pump configuration and OK to reset communications. 
  7. Select the LC menu and reset communications. 
  8. When initialization is complete, exit the inlet editor and MassLynx and shut down the PC. 
  9. Power cycle the UPLC modules and wait for them to initialize (with PC OFF). 
  10. Power-on the PC and open MassLynx. 
  11. Open the inlet editor, which may give a message about an old version of .bgm being updated. Save the new inlet method as Default.  
  12. Open the console and configure the CM-A as described in the installation manual.  
  13. If the Beta (or secondary pump) is there in the inlet editor and the console but is unavailable (grayed out), exit the console, the inlet editor, and MassLynx.  
  14. Power cycle only the Beta or secondary pump, wait for it to finish initializing, and then reboot the PC. 
  15. Open MassLynx, the inlet editor, and the Console; everything should now work as intended.
