Peak broadening and tailing - WKB79673

SYMPTOMS

• Broad peaks
• Large tailing factor

ENVIRONMENT

• Alliance HPLC System
• 2695 Separations Module
• ACQUITY UPLC

CAUSE

1. Column inlet and/or outlet tubing diameter incorrect, 0.020" tubing connecting column inlet and/or outlet.
2. Dead volume at column inlet because of improper capillary intrusion length.
3. Leakage at the inlet of the column.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Replace column inlet  and/or outlet tubing.0.009" tubing connects to column inlet and outlet.
2. Adjust the capillary intrusion into the column to a proper length.
3. Tighten column inlet capillary fittings.
