ACQUITY BSM unable to compress during leak test - WKB121964

SYMPTOMS

• Unstable pressure
• Unable to compress during leak test
• Customer usually uses HPLC column and "low" (<200 bar) pressure

ENVIRONMENT

• ACQUITY BSM
• ACQUITY H-Class QSM
• ACQUITY I-Class BSM

CAUSE

During long periods of relatively low pressure, seals can lose position.            

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Prime the system with Magic Mix for at least five minutes.
2. Install a UPLC dummy column (for example, an old qualification column BEH C18 50mm x 2.1mm, 1.7 µm)
3. Start increasing flow up to a pressure of 800–900 bar, and let flow for at least 10 minutes.
4. If delta is fine and no pressure drops are seen, perform a leak test.
