ACQUITY UPLC Failing Dynamic Leak/Static Decay Test - WKB12345

SYMPTOMS

• Retention time shift
• High delta psi
• Baseline ripple
• Failing dynamic leak test (DLT)
• Poor reproducibility
• Replicate injections steadily increasing in volume
• The static leak test fails, with various messages
• Excessive leakage
• Unable to compress or maintain pressure
• Leak rate above acceptable limit
• Check valve okay, but excessive leakage

CAUSE

Failed seals in the head(s)

FIX or WORKAROUND

Replace plunger and seals:

• Plunger: 700002600  

• Seal Wash Housing Seal: 700002598 

• High Pressure Seal:

  • 700002599 ACQUITY UPLC BSM, ACQUITY H-Class QSM, ACQUITY Premier BSM and ACQUITY Premier QSM

  • 700009135 ACQUITY I-Class BSM 

  • 700009838 ACQUITY UPLC M-Class        

Also consider replacing the pump head (700002595 for H-Class and 700009190 for I-Class) and the seal wash housing (700002597 for H-Class and 700009194 for I-Class) 

Note: If seal wash housing shows a "cross" or is colored it should be replaced

• Re-run DLT and verify it is now passing
• Set flow rate and make sure pressure and delta are stable and within acceptable limit                                                                           

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Can also use pump head rebuild kits consisting of plungers, seals and check valves.

For ACQUITY UPLC and ACQUITY UPLC H-Class:

• ACQUITY UPLC Accumulator Pumphead Rebuild Kit: 700004746

i2V Valve Rebuild Kit: 700004747 (for BSMs older than serial number F07UPB593M use Passive Check Valve Rebuild Kit 700004748)

• If seals, plungers, seals, check valves, heads & seal wash housings have been replaced and failure continues, replace the head to xducer SS tubing (430001120)
