Error "[NG14420] Operating System Error : Failed to open file" when restoring files from a NuGenesis OSM device - WKB26315

SYMPTOMS

• The following error occurs when restoring files from an OSM device:
  • "[NG14420] Operating System Error : Failed to open file"

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 8 SDMS

CAUSE

The OSM device configuration is incorrect. The device type is Hard Disk and the device's UNC path and drive letter do not match.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Log in to the NuGenesis SCC Manager.
2. Select the Offline Storage Manager module.
   • Stop the module if it is currently started.
3. Select the Device Configuration tab.
4. Select the device name and click Edit.
5. For a Hard Disk-type device, the Device Path (UNC) must be the UNC path for the Device Drive (Local) entry.
   • Example: Device Drive = E:\
   • Device Path = \\servername\$e  OR an equivalent UNC path for the E: drive
   • The NuGenesis RPC service account must have read, write, and delete permissions on the Device Drive and Device Path.
6. For a RAID or HSM Store-type device, the Device UNC Path need not match the Device Drive; in fact, the OSM module will use the Device UNC path exclusively.
   • Example: Device Drive = C:\
   • Device Path = \\servername\OSMData
