Error: "Unable to initialize the dialog workspace" when loading WebVision - WKB2585

SYMPTOMS

  • The following error message appears when loading NuGenesis WebVision in Internet Explorer:
    • "Unable to initialize the dialog workspace. Please contact your system administrator."

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS
  • Internet Explorer 11

CAUSE

WebVision requires Compatibility Mode in IE in order to display correctly in the browser.  Prior versions of Internet Explorer fail silently if Compatibility Mode is not active for WebVision; IE 11 displays an error message.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Set Compatibility Mode. Waters recommends setting Compatibility Mode for WebVision through an HTTP header, X-UA-Compatible, which is sent by the NuGenesis Web server in response to client requests, and triggers Compatibility Mode in IE.  Please see the related article, How to add the X-UA-Compatible HTTP header to NuGenesis web servers, for more information.
