Install and configuration checklist for backup of Empower projects/system audit trail by NuGenesis - WKB17904

Article number: 17904

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Capture Empower 2 or Empower 3 projects (optionally with JCAMP conversion) and the Empower system audit trail in NuGenesis SDMS with the WCF-based data adapters.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 2 FR5 minimum
  • Empower 3 FR2 minimum
  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS
  • NuGenesis 9 SDMS
  • Data Adapters Release 2 minimum

PROCEDURE

Empower side

To capture Empower projects:

  1. Install the Empower 3 Remote adapter on an Empower client box. Use DAR3 Hotfix 1, or the latest release for your NuGenesis version.
  2. (Optional) Install the JCAMP conversion adapter on the Remote box.
  3. Run the DA AutoIQs; verify that no errors are reported.
  4. On the remote box, run Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\EVS\config\EVSPortConfRemote.bat.
  5. Take note of the port numbers displayed. The data adapter's two services will listen for traffic on these ports. Default: 9992 for capture and 9993 for deletion.
  6. Confirm the Windows Firewall status; if it's active, create and verify exceptions in the firewall for these two ports. Windows 2008/2012/2016: use Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Windows 2003: use Control Panel > Windows Firewall.
  7. Create a folder on the Empower machine for the project backups. Try to use a location with a short path, to better accommodate long project names in Empower.
  8. Share this folder and ensure that the NuGenesis RPC service user on the SDMS Server has read-write-delete permissions.

To capture the Empower Audit Trail (DAR3 or later):

  1. Run Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\EVS\config\EmpowerAuditTrailConfUtil.exe.
  2. Type the username and password of an Empower administrator account, different than the one used in the SDMS archive template.
  3. Create a shared folder for the Empower audit trail backups. Example: \\ e3client\EMPOWER_AUDIT_TRAIL
  4. Share this folder and ensure that the NuGenesis RPC service user on the SDMS Server has read-write-delete permissions.

SDMS side

To capture Empower projects:

  1. Install the Empower3 proxy adapter on the SDMS server.
  2. Run the DA AutoIQs, and verify that no errors are reported.
  3. On the SDMS server, run Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\EVS\config\EVSPortConfProxy.bat.
  4. Set the port numbers to the ones noted in step 5. Default: 9992 and 9993.
  5. Type the name of the Empower remote box and click Test, to test the connection. Errors would likely be due to firewalls on either SDMS or Empower boxes.
  6. Log in to SDMS Admin and either create a new archive template or edit an existing one.
  7. Type the Empower remote box's name into the Remote DCOM server field; select the VPR for Empower3-Projects. Assuming the connection works, the rest of the template will become editable; if not, see article WKB50924
  8. Select the appropriate language for the projects.  If an incorrect language is selected, errors will occur.
  9. Enter the scan parameters.
  10. Enter the UNC path for the shared folder on the Empower remote box. Example: \\e3client\EMPOWER_BACKUP.
  11. Click the Advanced tab in the archive template.
  12. Enter the username and password of a sufficiently privileged account in Empower. Example: system.
  13. Select the Empower server name from the list.
  14. Click the "Ex" button to open the Exceptions list. The list displays all of the Empower projects that the Empower user account has access to.
  15. Review the selections in the list (selected = project will not be archived).
  16. Make one small change - setting and clearing the checkbox for one project - and click Apply. This step is critical. Without it, the exceptions list will not be saved to the DB, and the adapter will not archive any projects.
  17. Click Exit to close the exceptions list.
  18. (Optional) Select "Use Data Converter" if the project results must be converted to JCAMP. Select the VPR and target format; there is only one option for each field.
  19. Enter any metadata extractions to the Tag Marker Mapping list, as required. Click OK to save the template line.
  20. (Optional) Create a new template line to capture the JCAMP files. The VPR is NuGenesis Technologies Corp., JCAMP-DX, 5.0. The scan path is the project backup UNC path + \Conversion. Example: \\e3client\EMPOWER_BACKUP\Conversion.
  21. Click Save and Close to save the archive template to the DB.
  22. Log in to the SCC Manager interface. Stop the AA if it is started.
  23. Select the project and template from the lists and add it to the list of templates to be executed by the AA.
  24. Start the Archive Agent.

To capture the Empower Audit Trail (DAR3 or later):

  1. Log in to SDMS Administrator and create or edit an archive template. This template can be in the same archive template as the Empower Project Backups line.
  2. Create a new template line and enter the Empower remote box's name in the Remote DCOM Server field.
  3. Select the VPR for Empower-3 Audit Trail.
  4. Enter the UNC path for the shared folder on the Empower remote box. Example: \\e3client\EMPOWER_AUDIT_TRAIL.
  5. Click the Advanced tab in the archive template.
  6. Enter the username and password of a sufficiently privileged account in Empower. Example: system.
  7. Select the Empower server name from the list.
  8. Enter any metadata extractions to the Tag Marker Mapping list, as required. Click OK to save the template line.
  9. Click Save and Close to save the archive template to the DB.
  10. Log in to the SCC Manager interface. Stop the AA if it is started.
  11. Select the project and template from the lists and add it to the list of templates to be executed by the AA.
  12. Start the Archive Agent.

This checklist does not apply to NuGenesis 8 Data Adapters Release 1 (DAR1) or earlier versions.  DAR1 uses DCOM technology for the Empower data adapters, rather than Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) as in DAR2 and later versions.
