How to tell if a PC has the Windows Firewall activated using Service Profile - WKB2667

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

When troubleshooting communication problems it is useful to know if the Windows firewall is activated as this can interfere with instrument communications.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Microsoft Windows
  • Firewall
  • MassLynx

PROCEDURE

  1. Unzip the Service Profile

  2. Open the msinfo.txt file

  3. Either Edit > Find or Ctrl+F

  4. Type firew to find firewall information

  5. Look at the highlighted entry to determine if the feature is running
    e.g Results in [Services]
    Display Name            Name            State            Start Mode       Service Type              Path                                                                Error        Control ....
    Windows Firewall    MpsSvc    Running    Auto             Share Process       c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe ....          Normal    NT         ....
     

This shows that the Windows Firewall is activated
