.NET Framework error: Root Element Missing - WKB16351
Article number: 16351
SYMPTOMS
-
When starting MS Console, a "Root Element Missing" .NET error message appears
-
The Details tab of the error message reads "System.Xml.XmlException: Root element is missing."
ENVIRONMENT
- MassLynx MS console
- ACQUITY console
CAUSE
There is a problem with the ACQUITYSettings.xml file. The ACQUITYSettings.xml file essentially controls which modules are displayed within the MS Console window, and this file can occasionally be corrupt.
FIX or WORKAROUND
- Remove all the modules from the configurator and configure again. If this does not work, proceed to step 2.
- Run StopACQUITYProcesses.cmd from C:\Program Files (x86)\Waters Instruments\Bin.
- Go to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Waters Instruments\Settings and rename or delete the current ACQUITYSettings.xml file
- Reopen MassLynx and the MS Console. The ACQUITYSettings.xml file is re-created and the console window should now show correctly.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Do not reinstall .NET Framework.
When you see a .NET Framework error coming from the console, it almost always signifies that the console (which runs on Microsoft's .NET Framework programming tools) has a problem, not a problem with .NET Framework itself.
