Empower Preview/Publisher is very slow - WKB205616
SYMPTOMS
- Preview/Publisher is very slow
- Everything else works fine
- Previewing a report of 70 pages takes 20 minutes (compared with just a few seconds in FR2)
- Same behavior from Citrix and LAC/E
ENVIRONMENT
- Recent upgrade to Empower to FR5/SR5
- Own Oracle licenses
- Installed the database on Linux on Oracle 19c following the scripts and the instructions in WKB90912
CAUSE
The Oracle timezone file is mismatched on the server and the clients. The base installation of Oracle 19c installs the timezone v32 file. The Empower installers and the patch updater in the KCS install timezone patch v34.
Due to how Empower operates, the server and clients must be on the same Oracle timezone patch version.
FIX or WORKAROUND
- Update the Linux database server to timezone patch v34.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Alternative but not recommended workaround is to rename v34 on the LAC/Es and copy in v32. This did resolve the issue for one customer.

To enable a specific time zone file on the client, you can set ORA_TZFILE to whatever time zone file you want. If ORA_TZFILE is not set, the Oracle Database automatically picks up and uses the file with the latest time zone version.
