Removing the one-piece reference probe

Article number: 79318

Required materials:

  • Chemical-resistant, powder-free gloves
  • 4-mm open-end wrench
  • 2-mm hex wrench

To remove the existing one-piece reference probe:

  1. Prepare the instrument so that you can work safely on the source (see Preparing the instrument for working on the source).

Puncture wound.PNG Warning: To avoid puncture wounds, if an ESI probe is fitted to the source, remove the probe before continuing with this procedure.

Requirement: See removing the ESI probe.

  1. Pull the source enclosure release (located at the bottom, right-hand side) outward and swing open the enclosure.

Note: You can replace the LockSpray II reference probe without removing the source from the instrument, but the source ion block will remain hot.

  1. Remove the LockSpray II source enclosure from the instrument (see Removing the source enclosure from the instrument).
  2. Wait 10 minutes for the source ion block to cool.

  3. Pull up and rotate the reference probe inlet connector to overcome the bayoneted lock, and to align the indicator arrow on the source housing with the groove on the inlet connector.

  1. Push down on the reference probe inlet connector to release it from the source housing.

Tip: If the reference probe inlet connector is difficult to remove, rotate the source housing and remove the inlet connector from within.

  1. Rotate the reference sprayer assembly clockwise through 90 degrees and remove it from the reference sprayer support assembly.

Tip: Remove the baffle to improve access to the reference sprayer assembly, if required. To remove the baffle, use a 2-mm hex key.

  1. Unscrew the finger-tight fitting counterclockwise to remove the capillary end of the reference probe from the reference sprayer assembly.

  1. Remove the reference sprayer probe capillary from the reference sprayer assembly.

  1. Dispose of the used reference sprayer probe in accordance with local environmental regulations.
