How to configure Empower control of a Beckman CE system - WKB12020

Article number: 12020

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Configure a Beckman CE system in Empower.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 2
  • Empower 3
  • Beckman Coulter P/ACE MDQ CE
  • Beckman Coulter PA 800
  • Beckman Coulter PA 800 Plus

PROCEDURE

  1. Ensure that the Beckman Coulter system is one of the three models listed above.
  2. Install the correct National Instruments driver for the firmware:

For Beckman CE firmware versions 9.x, use NI-488.2 driver version 2.8.1.

    Find the NI Driver - NI-488.2 version 2.8.1 - Windows 7 64-bit/7 32-bit/Server 2003 R2 32-bit/XP/Vista 64-bit/Vista 32-bit/Server 2008 R2 64-bit at http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/2315/lang/en. The download is 424 MB.

For Beckman CE firmware versions 10.1, use NI-488.2 driver version 3.1.0.

  3. Ensure that the system has the minimum firmware required: Beckman Coulter P/ACE MDQ CE is 5.7, Beckman Coulter PA 800 is 7.2, Beckman Coulter PA 800 Plus is 9.0.

  4. Connect the system via IEEE-ethernet or IEEE-usb converter.

  5. From Empower, open Node properties and access the DHCP server. Select BCPACEMDQ as the type and 1 as the serial number. An IP address is not required for usb connections. Power-cycle the Beckman system in order to receive a manual address.

  6. Create a new system in Empower.
