Trap current limiting problem on the AutoSpec 1 - WKB96173

Article number: 96173

SYMPTOMS

  • The EI trap regulating current may regulate correctly but then drops shortly after; the filament current increases to maximum, and the emission current increases; the electron energy remains constant at the set value
  • CI control of the source/filament works correctly

ENVIRONMENT

  • AutoSpec Premier
  • AutoSpec Ultima

CAUSE

Poor connection on the outer source trap wiring.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. The wire connecting the Outer Source trap contact to the Contact Rail, left-hand rail - contact 4, is loose
  2. Verify push fit of the Cambion connector on the contact ring, LHS positon 4, underneath the outer source assembly.
  3. Check the M1.6 screw/nut connection securing the copper wire to the trap contact itself. It should be tight with no play in the connection.
    • Tighten as necessary with care. Small thread, 1.6 mm. Nut size across the flats, 3.2 mm.
