Condition EI/CI filaments prior to first use.

PROCEDURE

Set the instrument mode to EI+ with the trap current value at 0 (or to CI+ if the CI rhenium filament needs conditioning). On AutoSpec instruments only, set the accelerating voltage at 1 kV.

Set electron energy to 70 eV and source temperature to between 200 ºC and 280 ºC.

Do not introduce CI gas if the CI filament is to be conditioned.

For EI+ tungsten filaments, slowly ramp the trap current from 0 µA to 200 µA in 25-µA jumps over 5 minutes each, taking a total of 60 minutes.

For CI+ rhenium filaments, slowly ramp the emission current from 0 µA to 200 µA in 25-µA jumps over 5 minutes each, taking a total of 60 minutes.
