How to put an atmospheric solids analysis probe (ASAP) under MassLynx control - WKB7967

Article number: 7967

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Put an atmospheric solids analysis probe (ASAP) on a Xevo G2-XS or SYNAPT G2-S/Si instrument under MassLynx control, and have the tune page correctly recognize the probe.

ENVIRONMENT

  • MassLynx
  • SYNAPT G2-S
  • SYNAPT G2-Si
  • Xevo G2-XS
  • Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe

PROCEDURE

SYNAPT G2-Si

  1. Start with the instrument in Operate mode with an ESI probe attached and recognized.
  2. Switch the instrument into Standby mode.
  3. Remove the ESI probe.
  4. Put an intact ASAP probe on the instrument. (On the SYNAPT G2-S/Si, there is no pop-up message at this point.)
  5. Remove the middle of the ASAP probe (now you get a pop-up window).
  6. Press OK in the pop-up window.
  7. The tune page source tab should change to “ASAP”.
  8. Put the middle section back in the probe.
  9. Press Operate.

Xevo G2-XS

  1. Start with instrument in Operate mode with an ESI probe attached and recognized.
  2. Switch the instrument into Standby mode.
  3. Remove the ESI probe.
  4. Put an intact ASAP probe on the instrument.
  5. A “New source detected” message appears. Select the ASAP option.
  6. Remove the middle of the ASAP probe.
  7. If a second message appears, select ASAP and press OK.
  8. The tune page source tab should change to “ASAP”.
  9. Put the middle section back in the probe.
  10. Press Operate.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  1. If the above procedure doesn't work, carry out all of the above steps in reverse order, to get back to ESI mode. Once ESI is correctly recognized, repeat all of the above steps.
  2. If only the outer portion of the ASAP assembly is inserted at step 4, MassLynx may report that an APCI probe has been inserted. Even if you select "OK" for an APCI probe, when the inner part of the ASAP assembly is inserted, the tune page tab will automatically switch to ASAP. However, it has been observed that moving back to ESI after doing this may cause the tune page tab to get stuck in APCI mode, even with the ESI probe in place. It is important to insert the entire intact ASAP probe assembly at step 4. To get the ESI probe recognized, the entire ASAP assembly had to be put back in, and then we had to go from step 8 to step 1 in reverse order.
  3. In some cases it has been reported that, in addition to the steps detailed in the table, it may be necessary to open and close the source door to get the ASAP recognized.
  4. Source ID 4.68 ASAP - Probe Removed.
  5. Source ID 2.57 ASAP Probe Installed.
