No Internal Calibration Beam on QDa - WKB5222

Article number: 5222

SYMPTOMS

  • No internal calibration beam in either positive or negative ion modes.
  • Approximately 800V is seen in the capillary voltage read back on the Tune page during the calibration routine (after the internal calibration heater temperature has stabilized).
  • ESI signal is present when infusing sample through the probe.

ENVIRONMENT

  • QDa

CAUSE

  • The HV contact strip inside the source enclosure is not making contact with the internal calibration pin.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Reposition the HV contact pin so that it makes contact with the calibration pin. See the attached photograph showing the correct positioning of the pin. Incorrect positioning is shown for reference.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

It is possible for the HV contact strip to become dirty / oxidized, thus interfering with calibration function.

Gentle cleaning with lapping film or 1500 grit (wetted) sandpaper followed by appropriate rinsing may be worth trying before initiating more costly repairs.

If repositioning the calibration pin does not fix the issue, please refer to article number 3597
