SYMPTOMS

  • Operator Trip, low vacuum error
  • MS vented
  • Turbo pump stops with error message "turbo controller fault"
  • System can be pumped down but error reoccurs
  • Found: Room temperature 30 to 32 °C
  • Found: Noted errors occur when instrument temperature is above 55 °C

ENVIRONMENT

  • Xevo TQ Detector  
  • 3100 Mass Detector

CAUSE

Room temperature is too high for the instrument to adequately dissipate the heat generated by the turbo pump controller, electronics, and power supplies.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Reduce the room temperature to below 28 °C.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The ambient temperature range required for normal operation is 15 to 28 °C (59 to 82 °F).

The optimum temperature range is 19 to 22 °C (66 to 72 °F).

Short-term (1.5-h) variations must be no more than +/-2 °C (3.5 °F).
