Low sensitivity on a Quattro Micro after PM - WKB4470

Article number: 4470

SYMPTOMS

  • Lower sensitivity on a standard after the PM compared with before it

ENVIRONMENT

  • Quattro Micro
  • MassLynx 4.1

CAUSE

The mass has shifted on the mass scale due to the adjustments made by the engineer, and either the wrong calibration is being used or the Low Mass and High Mass settings are incorrect for the calibration that is being used.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Go to the Tune page that is being used to run the standard.
  2. Save it as a calibration tune page and drop the desolvation temperature to 200 C and the desolvation gas flow to 500 L/hr.
  3. On the Analyser tab, set the entrance, collision, and exit values to 2, 2, and 2.
  4. Save the tune page.
  5. Infuse sodium cesium iodide at 10 uL/min and look for peaks at 172.88, 622.57, 1072.25, and 1971.61.
  6. Select the Calibration drop-down menu and select Calibrate Instrument.
  7. Select the Calibrate drop-down menu and select Default.
  8. Ensure that Naics2 is selected in the drop-down menu.

  1. Ensure that the syringe is full and pumping. Select OK to start the calibration. Let the calibration complete. It takes about 15 minutes.
  2. When the calibration completes, select File > Save as, and save the calibration as a name with a date.
  3. Flush the lines, syringe, and probe with water or water/methanol.
  4. Open the original tune page used to run the analysis and select Calibration > Calibrate Instrument.
  5. Select File > Open and select the calibration that was just created.
  6. Run the analysis using the original tune page and the new calibration.
