CAUSE
Faulty cartridge heater. Resistance across a working heater cartridge heater should be 15-30 ohm.
FIX or WORKAROUND
- Place the system in standby.
- As a safety precaution, set the source temperature to 20 C (the lowest allowable temperature in the SW). The Source temperature setting maybe found on the ES Source tab, the Extended tab or the Advanced tab on the Tune page, depending on the instrument.
- Replace the cartridge heater (part number depends on instrument type, see additional information below).
- Close Isolation valve
- Using the combined 2.5-mm Allen wrench and cone extraction toll loosen the 2 captive screws securing the ion block cover plate
- Remove the ion block cover plate
- Using the combined 2.5-mm Allen wrench and cone extraction tool, remove the 2 screws securing the heater wires to the PEEK terminal block.
- Using the needle-nose pliers, carefully swing the ring terminal tags out of the terminal block.
- Using the needle-nose pliers, gently grasp the heat-shrink tubing on the heater cartridge assembly and slide the assembly out of the ion block.
- Dispose of the heater cartridge assembly in accordance with local environmental regulations.
Using the needle-nose pliers, gently grasp the heat-shrink tubing on the new heater-cartridge assembly and slide into the ion block.- Using the needle-nose pliers, position the 2, heater cartridge ring tags fully down on the PEEK block terminals.
- Using the combined 2.5-mm Allen wrench and cone extraction tool, fit and tighten the 2 screws securing the heater wires to the PEEK terminal block.
- Fit the ion block cover plate to the ion block assembly, and then using the combined 2.5-mm Allen wrench and cone extraction tool, tighten the 2 captive screws securing ion block cover plate.
- Open isolation valve.
- Close Isolation valve
