How to configure Symantec antivirus software for MassLynx - WKB1695

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Configure Symantec antivirus software settings so a mass spectrometer can acquire data without interference.

ENVIRONMENT

• Symantec Endpoint Protection v12.1
• MassLynx

PROCEDURE

See the screenshots in the attached document, Symantec Screencaptures_v12_1.pdf.

Folders to exclude are:
C:\MassLynx - and all its subfolders
C:\OALogin (if OALogin is in use)
C:\OAToolkit (If OAToolkit is in use)
and any other application folders such as TargetLynx etc
C:\MLynxLogs
C:\program files (x86)\Waters instruments
C:\program files (x86)\Micromass utilities
And any folder where MassLynx projects are stored.

• Full antivirus scanning should be scheduled outside of normal use and when not acquiring data.
• Network Threat protection may cause issues and should therefore be disabled.
• Automatic updates should be set to only load and install when when not acquiring data.
• Note other settings may also interfere with MassLynx operation. New features should be reviewed.
