Article number: 125448

SYMPTOMS

  • "Turbo Controller Fault" error message in the console
  • Instrument stood vented
  • Turbo speed is zero
  • Roughing pump is off

ENVIRONMENT

  • SQD2
  • Xevo TQ-S micro
  • Xevo TQD

CAUSE

Instrument crash vented.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1.  Power cycle all components, including the PC and all UPLC components.
  2.  Remove all the components from the DHCP and re-establish communications.
  3.  Launch the console and pump down the instrument.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

"A turbo controller fault" doesn't necessarily mean there is component/part failure. When the controller is interrupted (by a power surge, for example) and the instrument crash vents, it could produce this error. In this case a simple re-establishment of communication and a power cycle of all components would suffice, without any part replacements.

Note : Refer to How to configure the Waters DHCP Server for additional information. When communications with the PC and all the components are OK (DHCP has repopulated all components with values for all four columns, including the type and serial number), launch the console (through MassLynx or Empower) and see if the error is still present. If it says turbo pump off (instead of turbo controller fault), simply try to pump down the instrument. Wait for the turbo to kick in and reach 100%, put it in Operate, and verify that all readbacks are OK.
