ESI probe protrudes too far out of probe tip - WKB100043

Article number: 100043

SYMPTOMS

  • No beam
  • Capillary visibly sticks out more than expected - may even push all the way out and contact source enclosure

ENVIRONMENT

  • Xevo G2-S QTof
  • Xevo TQD
  • Xevo TQ-S

CAUSE

Capillary is not held tightly enough inside the PEEK union.

The usual cause is a blockage in the capillary, causing fluid pressure to push down the capillary.

Can also be caused by the slide port locking nut not being tightened sufficiently to the PEEK union, causing the union to rotate.

Another cause: the locking nut becomes cross-threaded on the slide port.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Rebuild the probe with ESI service kit 700004672.
  2. If damaged, replace the slide port (700005023) and the locking nut (M956321AD1).
