Sample Manager-FTN error: Seal residual force limit exceeded (z-wash) - WKB98683

SYMPTOMS

• "Seal residual force limit exceeded (z-wash)" error message appears intermittently when priming the solvent manager or starting the flow
• Rebooting solves the issue temporarily
• Module passes initialization diagnostics
• Characterize needle seal passes (seal constant 8-11 N/mm)
• Needle seal readiness test fails
• Visible needle marks on overflow cup
• Excessive resistance when pushing down manually on the needle wash/injection station
• Bad chromatography

ENVIRONMENT

• ACQUITY UPLC Sample Manager - Flow Through Needle PLUS (SM-FTN PLUS)
• ACQUITY UPLC I-Class

CAUSE

• Damaged needle
• Faulty/bent seat port

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Replace the needle (700008977).
2. Replace the seat port (700006056).
3. Verify successful installation of parts by running diagnostics and calibration tests according to ACQUITY UPLC Sample Manager -Flow Through Needle
