Is there a way to change the default temperature alarm band on an ACQUITY UPLC? - WKB69025

Article number: 69025

ENVIRONMENT

  • ACQUITY UPLC Sample Manager
  • ACQUITY UPLC Column Heater

ANSWER

Yes, the default parameter of 5 °C can be changed in the instrument method.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The alarm band in the instrument method can be changed from +/- 5 °C. The lowest it can be is 1.0 °C.

From the ACQUITY help menu:
Specifying temperature limits (alarm bands)

Temperature alarm bands prevent an analysis from proceeding until the column heater and sample manager temperatures are within the limits defined by the bands. Configure each band on the General tab of the sample manager instrument method. To enable the use of an alarm band, select the Alarm Band box, and enter an alarm band temperature range.

The temperature is monitored at the start of the injection, to verify that it is within the set point plus-or-minus one-half of the value of the alarm band. If the temperature is within the specified range, the injection proceeds. If the temperature is not within the specified range, the injection does not proceed. Instead, a message appears stating, "Waiting for Column Temperature" or "Waiting for Sample Compartment Temperature". The injection proceeds only when the monitored temperature attains the range defined by the set point plus-or-minus one-half the band.

The temperature alarm bands for the column heater and sample manager work similarly, with the following exceptions:
•    For alarm bands associated with the temperature of a column heater, the temperature continues to be monitored throughout the entire sample analysis, to ensure that it remains within the range defined by the set point plus-or-minus one half the value of the alarm band. If the temperature changes so that it is outside this range, data acquisition stops, the column heater stops operating, and a message stating "Column Temperature Range Error" appears.

•    For alarm bands associated with the temperature of a sample manager, the system does not verify the temperature again until the start of the next analysis.
Requirement: The temperature setting of an alarm band must be a numerical value, not the setting "Off". If the sample temperature is set to Off, you can monitor the temperature on the Plots page.

To specify temperature limits:
1.    Select the sample manager.
2.    On the General tab, specify the column temperature.
3.    Select the box adjacent to the column-temperature setting, and then specify a setting for the column's alarm band.
4.    Specify the sample temperature.
5.    Select the box adjacent to the sample-temperature setting, and then specify a setting for the sample alarm band.
6.    Click Save.
