How to confirm reference and sample energy on an ACQUITY ELS detector - WKB6768

Article number: 6768

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Confirm reference and sample energy on an ACQUITY ELS detector.

ENVIRONMENT

ACQUITY ELS detector

PROCEDURE

Confirming the reference energy (nA):

1. In the console, select ELS Detector > Interactive Display.

2. Confirm reference energy on the interactive diagram.

The reference energy should be greater than (>)100 nA. If the reference energy is less than (<)100 nA, the lamp or another component may be defective.

Confirming the sample energy (LSU):

1. In the console, select ELS Detector > Interactive Display.

2. Change the sample settings by changing the gain value:

a. Set the gain value to 1 and monitor sample energy for several minutes.

b. Select a gain of 100, 200, 400, and so on, up to 1000.

You should see changes in the signal that corresponds to those gain settings. If you do not see changes as expected, the PMT or PMT socket may be defective.
