Median Baseline Filter (MBF) is a digital filter that reduces the effects of unwanted baseline curvatures.
The algorithm works in three steps, as shown in the block diagram.
1) Median Filter
The raw chromatographic signal is input to the median filter, which removes the chromatographic peaks. This leaves an approximation of the baseline.
2) Smoothing Filter
The median-filtered baseline is input to the Smoothing Filter. This filter eliminates high frequency noise and results in the model baseline.
3) Subtraction
The model baseline is subtracted from the raw chromatogram to obtain the MBF-compensated chromatogram.
