How do the strong and weak washes in a fixed-loop sample manager relate to the wash and purge in a flow through needle? - WKB51361

Article number: 51361

ENVIRONMENT

  • ACQUITY UPLC Sample Manager
  • ACQUITY UPLC Sample Manager - Flow Through Needle (SM-FTN)

ANSWER

There is no direct translation. In a Fixed Loop autosampler the strong wash washes the needle, and then the weak is used to rinse off the strong. Depending on injection mode, weak wash may be injected. In an FTN, the wash is used to wash the exterior of the needle. The purge is used to fill the injection flow path. The interior of the needle is not washed because the chromatographic flow goes through it. Neither solvent is injected.
