SYMPTOMS

• High baseline noise in 2414
• Sample and reference flow cell thoroughly purged
• Temperature set on the column and on the detector
• Very low pump pressure ripple

ENVIRONMENT

• ACQUITY UPLC RI Detector
• Alliance HPLC System
• 2695 Separations Module
• 2414 Refractive Index Detector

CAUSE

The mobile phase is mixed by the 2695 pump, generating slight turbulence that you can see in the 2414 chromatogram baseline.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Pre-mix the mobile phase in a bottle.
