SYMPTOMS

• Error "Needle/seal move exceeds limit (5.0)" occurs during startup

ENVIRONMENT

• ACQUITY UPLC Sample Manager - Flow Through Needle

CAUSE

The support sleeve and metal needle seal housing of the needle seat are stuck together by the sample or mobile phase, preventing the support sleeve from moving downward when the needle is pressed down to the needle seal, which causes the needle seat pressure transducer to report an error because it senses no force at all.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Disassemble the needle seat to remove any contaminants between the support sleeve and the metal needle seal housing, ensuring a clear path.

2. Reassemble the needle seat.

3. Perform Characterize Needle Seal.
