The lamp light is red on a PDA Detector with initialization failure error - WKB16226

Article number: 16226

SYMPTOMS

  • The lamp light is red on a 2998 PDA Detector
  • Initialization failure occurring
  • Wavelength verification failure at power-on initialization or when trying to lit the lamp
  • Unable to run the erbium calibration while the detector is in an error state
  • Power-cycling does not resolve the issue

ENVIRONMENT

  • 2998 Photodiode Array Detector
  • ACQUITY UPLC PDA Detector
  • ACQUITY UPLC PDA eλ Detector
  • ACQUITY UPLC H-Class
  • ACQUITY UPLC I-Class
  • ACQUITY UPLC
  • ACQUITY UPC2

CAUSE

The flow cell is dry.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Before you power-on the detector, start a flow of 1.0 mL/min (preferably 100% methanol, isopropanol or acetonitrile) and allow it to run for about 15 minutes.
  2. Be sure not to exceed 1000 psi back pressure without a column.
  3. Power-on the detector and wait until initialization and wavelength verification are completed.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • If flow has been on for a while and light still stays red, reboot detector while flow is on
  • Reset the PDA in the console
  • Flow rates may need to be as high as 2.0 mL/min
