System overpressure and visible leak on mixer inlet with ACQUITY UPLC I-Class or M Class BSM - WKB16216

SYMPTOMS

  • Pressure is higher than expected, even on a new column
  • System overpressures at low flow rates (<0.5 mL/min)
  • Pressure trace in ACQUITY console is showing ca. 6000 psi difference between Accumulator and Primary pump, resulting in overpressure on Accumulator pump.
  • Retention time shifts
  • Visible leak on mixer inlet

ENVIRONMENT

  • ACQUITY UPLC
  • ACQUITY UPLC I-Class
  • Acquity M-Class

CAUSE

Damaged or over-tightened tubing from the vent valve to the mixer

Clogged filter inside the mixer

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Replace the damaged tubing (link to ACQUITY UPLC BSM; link to ACQUITY UPLC I-Class BSM, link to ACQUITY UPLC M-Class BSM).
  2. Replace the mixer (link to ACQUITY UPLC BSM; link to ACQUITY UPLC I-Class BSM, link to ACQUITY UPLC M-Class BSM).
  3. Verify that the issue is resolved and that the system functions as expected.
