2489 UV/Vis Detector - Lamp lighting failure - WKB13935

SYMPTOMS

• Lamp lighting failure occurs on detector during start-up
• Restarting the detector does not resolve the issue
• Lamp does not light
• Lamp cutting out during Operation

ENVIRONMENT

• 2489 UV/Vis Detector
• 2998 Photodiode Array Detector

CAUSE

• Lamp failed
• Wrong lamp (2487; WAS081142) installed
• Lab humidity is high (Specification: 20 - 80%, non-condensing) Link

FIX or WORKAROUND

Replace the lamp. The part number for a 2489/2998 lamp is 201000281

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Lamp failure can also be caused by an overheating condition when the exhaust fan is not able to move enough air through the detector which then causes a thermal cutoff switch to turn off the lamp for safety.
 

Try reducing lab humidity to see if it increases the success rate of lamp lighting. This might take more time (days to weeks) to confirm.
