Where do I find the ASTRA log file? - WKB319102
ENVIRONMENT
- ASTRA 6
- ASTRA 7
- ASTRA 8
- ASTRA SP
- HPLC CONNECT
ANSWER
The ASTRA application log file, astra_log.txt, is used for troubleshooting and is located in C:\ProgramData\WTC\ASTRA\ for ASTRA 7 and 8. When the log file reaches 20 MB, it rolls over to astra_log2.txt, keeping only the current and previous logs. For ASTRA 6, the log file is located at %AllUsersProfile%\WTC\ASTRA\astra_log.txt and does not have a size limit or rollover. Additional logging can be enabled by placing a configuration file astra_log.cfg in the respective directory. Users are advised to send both log files to support@wyatt.com for troubleshooting.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Where do I find the ASTRA log file?
Logging in ASTRA 8 and ASTRA7
Note: There are several log files accessed within the ASTRA application (the system log, experiment log, sequence log, and for ASTRA SP, the database log. This article concentrates on the external ASTRA application log file. The ASTRA application log is used for troubleshooting and is not part of the audit trail for 21 CFR 11 compliance.
ASTRA automatically creates the log file astra_log.txt in the directory C:\%allusersprofile%\WTC\ASTRA\<version>\ (This usually translates to C:\ProgramData\WTC\ASTRA\<version>)
When the log file reaches 20 MB, it automatically is copied to astra_log2.txt and a new astra_log.txt file starts. Only the current log astra_log.txt and one previous log astra_log2.txt are saved. This is to prevent there from being more than 40 MB in log files.
Systems with a large number of errors or ASTRA installations that use the HPLC CONNECT will roll over the log file more it can be sent to Wyatt for analysis. Because of this please send us the astra_log.txt file and the astra_log2.txt files as soon as you have an error. This will ensure that we have the information necessary to find a resolution. Note that if you are having trouble with the logfile rolling over, the software team can provide a logging configuration file (astra_log.cfg) that allows the file to grow longer.
The configuration file can also be modified to collect information specific to an issue. An example configuration file with additional debugging is included at the end of this article.
To turn on additional logging using a modified configuration file:
- Open a file explorer window and enter the following location: C:\%allusersprofile%\WTC\ASTRA\8.x
- Copy the logging config file (astra_log.cfg) into the directory above.
- Run ASTRA to reproduce the error.
- Send the log file (astra_log.txt) to support@wyatt.com. Compressing the file will allow it to be sent via email.
- Remove the astra_log.cfg file.
Logging in ASTRA 6
The ASTRA 6 log is located at %AllUsersProfile%\WTC\ASTRA\astra_log.txt. ASTRA 6 checks for a configuration file in this directory, astra_log.cfg, for the desired logging level. By default (no astra_log.cfg file or an empty file), ASTRA 6 logs errors only. To obtain more logging information for debugging:
1) Open a file explorer window and enter the following location: %AllUsersProfile%\WTC\ASTRA
2) Copy the logging config file (astra_log.cfg) into the directory above.
3) Run ASTRA and reproduce the error.
4) Send the log file (astra_log.txt) to support@wyatt.com. Compressing the file will allow it to be sent via email. Remove the astra_log.cfg file.
