Golden Rules for UNIFI PC Management V – Checking Data Backups - WKB208961

Article number: 208961

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Follow best practices in managing data backups on a UNIFI or waters_connect UNIFI PC (workstation and LND).

ENVIRONMENT

  • UNIFI workstation
  • UNIFI network
  • waters_connect UNIFI workstation
  • waters_connect UNIFI network
  • Windows 7 UNIFI PC
  • Windows 10 UNIFI PC

PROCEDURE

To protect UNIFI data, you must back up the Oracle database on a regular basis. Backups protect against hardware corruption or failure, such as the failure of a database drive on a workstation, or database corruption from a virus or malware.

  1. It is important to check on a weekly basis that a full back up of the database has been a success. This is done by viewing “Manage Backups” in the Waters Database Manager (WDM):

o   Start WDM and log in as administrator.

o   View “Manage Backups” > “Scheduled Backups”.

o   Click on the Log file icon clipboard_ee8baef45b1dd0a3b7c7547f7bbca957a.png for the FULL_LVL0 backup.

o   Determine when the last full backup was successfully completed.

  2. If there is no evidence that the backup has been running successfully or if it has failed, immediately contact your Local Waters Service Support representative.

  3. Ensure that the backup area is NOT on the same C:\ Drive or the UNIFI installed drive.
