ACQUITY Console does not start from the MassLynx shortcut - WKB48186

SYMPTOMS

• Console does not start from the MassLynx shortcut; there is no error message

• Console opens when accessing it from the inlet editor or from the .exe file

ENVIRONMENT

• Xevo TQ-XS with I-Class on Win 7 Waters PC; MassLynx 4.2 SCN 982
• Probably would affect any MassLynx 4.1 or MassLynx 4.2 system

CAUSE

Conflict with the Google Chrome update program GoogleUpdate.exe, which runs in the background when Chrome is used.

The user installed Google Chrome, together with MS Office and the Waters Clarity tool, at about the time that the problem with the Console was first observed.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Via Task Scheduler, disable the following services:

• GoogleUpdateTaskMachineCore
• GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The GoogleUpdate.exe process can be seen in Task Manager. It is used by Google Chrome to check for new version updates. If it finds an update available, it downloads and installs it.

Once Google Chrome is installed, the Windows Application log will contain many "gupdate" events.
