How to enable debug logging in NuGenesis 9 SDMS - WKB67194

Article number: 67194

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Enable debug logging in NuGenesis 9 SDMS software except the UNIFY print driver—in order to provide detailed information to Waters Support regarding a technical issue with SDMS.

Please read the article "How to enable debug logging for NuGenesis UNIFY" for the debug logging procedure for UNIFY.

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9 SDMS
  • Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 64-bit, Windows Server 2016 64-bit, Windows Server 2019 64-bit

PROCEDURE

  1. Copy the registry files attached to this article Enable and Disable SDMS debug logging.  Do this by right click each and Save Target As to your appropriate machine.  NOTE:  Be sure to change the .TXT extensions to .REG before saving.
  2. Double-click the "SDMS90_64bit_FULL_Debuglogging.reg" file on the appropriate machine.
  3. Windows prompts you to confirm the import of the registry keys from the file. Click OK / YES to each of the prompts
  4. Restart the NuGenesis software (usually the NuGenesis RPC service, or SDMS Administrator, or NuGenesis Preview, or the NuGenesis VISION Server service) depending on which application your are interested in collecting logs from.
  5. Reproduce the issue being debugged within the application.
  6. Double-click the "SDMS90_64bit_Remove_Debug_Logging.reg" file on the appropriate machine.
  7. Restart the NuGenesis software (usually the NuGenesis RPC service, or SDMS Administrator, or NuGenesis Preview, or the NuGenesis VISION Server service) depending on which application your are interested in collecting logs from.
  8. Collect the log files per the table below and send them to Support for analysis.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

SDMS debug logs are separate from the normal application logs, such as the Archive Agent's activity log file. The debug logs are written in the same directory as the executable of the debugged component. Consult the table below for the file names and locations of the debug logs for each SDMS component.

Please see "How to enable debug logging for NuGenesis 8 SDMS SDK applications" for instructions on debugging in non-NuGenesis applications that make use of the SDMS SDK.
