Error when restoring files from NuGenesis SDMS: Unable to Create Activity Project Entry! - WKB63865

SYMPTOMS

The following error messages appear when restoring files from NuGenesis SDMS:

"Unable to Create Activity Project Entry! Please see Log File for Restore Summary."

"Unable to Create Log File!"

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 9 SDMS
• NuGenesis 8 SDMS

CAUSE

Unable to write to the log file:

• In NuGenesis 8: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis\UV
• In NuGenesis 9: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NGSDMS\UV

FIX or WORKAROUND

Redefine permissions to allow modify access to this folder.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The initial release of NuGenesis 9 has a defect in which the NuGenesis Transfer Application—NGipvw.exe—requested administrator rights due to its internal manifest. As a result, it would always run with admin rights (pending approval by UAC) and would therefore not be blocked by permissions. The fix for that defect requires replacement of NGipvw.exe. The fixed program runs with the user's rights, and it may be blocked by file system permissions. In this case, follow the instructions in this article to correct the problem.
