How to change the server alias in the tnsnames.ora for NuGenesis SDMS - WKB56933

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Change the server alias to a user-friendly name in an already-configured NuGenesis SDMS system.

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 8 SDMS

PROCEDURE

1. Add a new entry to the tnsnames.ora file:
   1. Run the Waters Net Configuration Assistant.
   2. Add a new line to the file and type the user-friendly name into the Alias column. Copy the other parameters from an existing entry in the file.
   3. Click the Save button.
   4. Repeat these steps, or copy the modified tnsnames.ora file to all NuGenesis web/file capture servers and to all SDMS Administrator clients.
2. Modify the server lists in SDMS:
   1. Log in to SDMS Administrator.
   2. Click Actions > Servers > Add.
   3. Type the user-friendly name into the input box.
   4. The new entry will appear in the Master List in SDMS Admin.
   5. Click Actions > Update Local List.
3. Copy the NGLocalProjectList.xml file from the SDMS Admin client to the SDMS file capture servers.
4. In SDMS Admin, remove the old, user-unfriendly name from the master list.
5. Users see the "friendly" name when logging in to SDMS applications, and the existing file capture servers continue to run their templates without modifications.
