ANSWER

NuGenesis 8 Service Release 2 (SR2) is recorded in the registry as SR3 because the registry key was designed under the assumption that software updates to SDMS would always proceed in numerical order.  Because of this, the official NuGenesis 8.0 update sequence, SR1 > FR1 > SR2, is internally identified as SR1 > SR2 > SR3.
