Why is there a gap in the ID numbers in a NuGenesis SDMS project? - WKB49388

Article number: 49388

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS
  • A gap in the sequence of ID numbers is seen when browsing a project in NuGenesis WebVision

ANSWER

You will note skipped or missing ID numbers if:

  • One or more records are moved from one project in SDMS to another project
  • One or more records are deleted from an SDMS project
  • One or more reports failed to be inserted from TE_TEMP

In the case of moved or deleted records, the SDMS audit trail will have records of the move and delete actions, so that the actions can be traced to a user account.

There will not be any audit records in the case of Transport Engine failures. The TE, which runs on UNIFY print client machines and on the NuGenesis file capture server(s), attempts to insert the archived files or printed reports from TE_TEMP into the database or Managed Storage. The TE automatically re-attempts the insertion if the initial attempts fail. Each failed attempt results in a skipped ID number.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

To check for the third case, look for records where the Date/Time of Print or Date/Time of Capture is significantly (more than 1 minute) different from the Date/Time of Database Insertion. A difference of hours, days, or more is an indication of failed attempts to insert the record. Error messages should also be logged in the records in the SDMS_System_Activities project and TE Activities view.
