Error in NuGenesis audit trail viewer: Could not locate database driver - WKB3987

SYMPTOMS

• When logging in to the SDMS audit trail viewer, the following error message appears: "Could not locate database connection driver".
• Clicking OK clears the error message, but on the next page of the audit trail viewer, the list of available Data Views is blank, and the user cannot query the audit trail.
• The following message appears in the Apache Tomcat localhost log file:
  • org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext log
  • INFO: NG80Audit: 0: Could not locate database connection driver: sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver, Exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 9 SDMS
  • Java 1.8 Update 172 x86
• NuGenesis 8 SDMS
  • Java 1.7 Update 2 x86

CAUSE

This error message is due to an unsupported version of Java on the web server. See the Environment section of this article for the supported versions of Java for NuGenesis versions 8 and 9.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Uninstall all versions of Java from the NuGenesis web server or servers, except for the supported version
   • Ensure that the 32-bit (x86) version of Java is installed.  The SDMS web server requires a 32-bit Java Runtime.  If a 64-bit Java Runtime of the same version as the expected version is installed, then the system may appear to have the correct Java installed, but it will not function
2. Disable Java automatic updates on all NuGenesis web servers. For help, see the article How do I disable Java automatic updates on my NuGenesis web server?
3. If a manual uninstall/reinstall of Java fails to resolve the problem, then uninstall ALL Java software and the NuGenesis Application Server.  Re-install the SDMS Application Server from the installation disc or ISO file.  The installation process for the App Server will also install the expected version of Java
