Empower Project Archive failure due to corrupted CandidateListIndex file - WKB265586

Article number: 265586

SYMPTOMS

  • SDMS archival of Empower projects fails
  • Error appears in AAActivity.log:
    • "Conversion from String "" "" to type 'Integer' is not valid.” …….."GetProjectList failed"
  • Error in Empower Remote Data Adapter DEBUG log:
    • ERROR Waters.SDMS.EmpowerDARemote.ClsEmp2PreProc - [GetProjectList] Microsoft.VisualBasic: Input string was not in a correct format. (   at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ParseDouble(String Value, NumberFormatInfo NumberFormat)
         at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToInteger(String Value))

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 8 SR2
  • NuGenesis 9.0.1
  • Waters Corp. Empower (REMOTE) Data Adapter (Rev 9.0.4)

CAUSE

A blank CandidateListIndex file on each of the remote Empower clients. The file should include a number, the last project number from the previous scan. If this file is NULL, the error occurs. Deleting the file causes a new file to be created during the next scan.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Stop the archive agent.

  2. Delete the corrupted CandidateListIndex file (found on the remote data adapter server/Empower remote machine: C:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NGSDMS\EVS\)

  3. Restart the Archive Agent.

Note: There may be different CandidateListIndex files, because they have a suffix that denotes the grouping option selected on the template. For example, if the customer is using Empower data adapter and ProjectLevel, the file will be called "CandidateListIndex_EMPOWER_ProjectLevel", and this is the file to be removed. If the template in question is using ProjectLevel1, the file will be called "CandidateListIndex_EMPOWER_ProjectLevel1". This information is found in the File Capture template.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The root cause for corrupted CandidateListIndex files is unknown.

Issue CRI-6117 (Empower Archive Fails due to Corrupt CandidateListIndex File) was created as an "Incident".
