Lots of NG80EDVO.EXE or NGEDVO.EXE processes visible in Task Manager - WKB241593

Article number: 241593

SYMPTOMS

  • Lots of NG80EDVO.EXE (NG8) or NGEDVO.EXE (NG9) processes are visible in Task Manager
  • The command line for the NGEDVO processes is distinct from the ones normally seen when configuring or printing to UNIFY
    • Example: NG80EDVO.EXE 54 C:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\UV\NGD 1

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS
  • NuGenesis 9 SDMS

CAUSE

The NG80prox.exe or NGprox.exe process is looking for .alf files in the location Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\UV\NGD\. The expected result is no .alf files, so the EDVO processes will not be started.

If at least one .alf file is present in the \UV\NGD\ folder, NGprox.exe will start an EDVO process to handle the corresponding print job.  Each EDVO process fails to process the report and delete the .alf file, resulting in an endless loop of new EDVO processes.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Removing the .alf file from this folder will prevent additional EDVO processes from being created.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Waters continues to investigate this issue.

The following command lines are examples for standard EDVO processes as started by the NuGenesis applications for normal operations:

  • UNIFY configuration: "C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\NG80EDVO.EXE" 152 0 C:\Windows\NuGenesis UNIFY 8.0.ini
  • UNIFY print: ng80edvo.exe 153 0 2 0
