Does LMS Document AutoSave eliminate the possibility of audit information loss when editing Excel sections? - WKB239303

Article number: 239303

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9 LMS
  • NuGenesis 8 LMS

ANSWER

No. There are some rare Excel startup scenarios in which Audit trail information would be lost.

When editing an Excel section and the creation of a Recovery File is triggered, the LMS Document content is saved. However, if the Smart Builder Excel add-in did not load correctly during the launch of Excel, audit trail information cannot be saved. This is because the Audit information is normally sent by Smart Builder to NuGenesis LMS through the LMS SDK when a user closes the Excel section. Likewise, Smart Builder is responsible for issuing the Reason for Change prompt, which would not be seen.

If, in addition to Smart Builder not loading correctly, Excel itself stops responding, there are two possible scenarios:

  1. If Excel closes without error, the Smart Builder validation error message appears, the new content is not saved, and auto recovery files are deleted. (Note: there would be no relevant Audit information regarding the unchanged section content.)
  2. If Excel stops responding while the user is editing the section and does not close without error then, on the next section edit, the user is asked if they want to recover the section content. If the user confirms, the Excel section content is recovered, but no audit information is recovered.
